MAP OF OCEANIA

2) OCEANIA CONTINENT WITH THOUSAND ISLANDS:

Oceania is a continent of 16 countries in four geographical regions.

Composed by Australia and New Zealand, Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. The Oceanic Continent is located in the South Pacific Ocean. In addition to Australia and New Zealand, Oceania is a composite of several thousand mostly small islands scattered south of the equator, with the exception of parts of Micronesia and Hawaii Islands (United States). Considerable distances (sometimes several thousand kilometers) separate some of these archipelagos and islands.

3) THE COUNTRIES OF OCEANIA:

Number of countries in Oceania: 16.

List of Countries in alphabetical order are as follow :

Australia.
Cook Islands.
Fiji.
Kiribati.
Marshall Islands.
Micronesia.
Nauru.
Niue.
New Zealand.
Palau.
Papua New Guinea.
Solomon.
Samoa.
Tonga.
Tuvalu.
Vanuatu.

4) TOTAL AREA:

The total Area of Oceania is around 8.562 million kilometers^2 and the population is about 40,117,432 in 2016.

5) THE GEOLOGY OF THE CONTINENT:

The islands of Oceania are morphologically characterized by an orogenesis and volcanism that conditioned the emergence of land. The western sector is the most regular and the vast oceanic dorsal Darwin, which supports the atolls of Micronesia and Polynesia, is dotted with volcanoes, such as Hawaii (part of a volcanic ensemble higher than Everest), and Tonga Islands. Submarine volcanoes regularly surface at the surface of the volcanic dorsal beds that sit alongside some of the deepest seabed in the world: the Kermadec-Tonga Trench (10,882 m) and the Mariana Trench (11,034 m).

The presence of coral formations - the atolls - resting on a submerged volcanic bedrock is another peculiarity of these islands. Most of the islands of French Polynesia have had identical training.

6) THE CLIMATE OF OCEANIA:

The impact of marine expanses affects the climate of the Oceanian islands, oceanic and relatively constant for the area between the tropics. In the equatorial zone, it rains all year long and the rain
fall pattern reaches significant values: from 3000 to 5000 mm per year in the Caroline Islands or in the Bismarck Archipelago. In regions more open to the movement of currents and trade winds, rainfall varies considerably depending on whether the region is "downwind" or "windward". The average temperature of the tropical area is around 27 ° C, with very small variations (less than 1 ° C).

Marine currents, whose flows are related to wind rotation, play an important role in the ocean ecosystem. Two major currents coexist, separated by the equator: in the north, the California current and the north-equatorial Pacific current, the latter influenced by the trade winds and flowing from east to west; to the south, the south-equatorial current. They are separated by a countercurrent flowing along the equator of the Philippines to Panama.
Because of its size, Australia has a wide variety of climates.
